the PROBLEM:
Climate change is probably the world’s greatest challenge. President Obama said, "There's one no issue that will define the contours of this century more dramatically than any other, and that is the urgent threat of a changing climate. There is overwhelming data, research, and physical evidence that climate change is impacting our world and creating monstrous natural disasters. On November 6, 2012, Donald Trump tweeted: "The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive." If leaders are in denial, what will the future of humanity look like? We have a problem in our hands and if leaders are not taking action, we must persuade them to.
our MISSION:
Artists for Climate Change calls visual artists worldwide, with diverse backgrounds and beliefs, to unite in one voice to make the world a better place by raising awareness and demanding immediate action on climate change. We strongly believe that all world leaders, governments, and decision makers, must take a decisive stand and make radical ethical choices for the good of nature and humanity.
We want to tackle the issue of climate change through art, in order to make it accessible to lay people and communities that cannot process or grasp the importance of this issue through facts, graphs, and figures. Art is a reflection of culture and is a visual way to engage difficult topics and challenge people, leaders and nations to reflect and take action on matters that may improve our quality of life and that of future generations. Art helps us to understand our impact on the natural world and may encourage people to take action. We want to challenge individuals and corporations that oppose climate change as well as those who are in denial, because, as the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon said: "We are the last generation that can take steps avoid the worst impacts of climate change."
the ACTION:
Through this activist and artistic initiative (the art open call, online gallery exhibit, local and international shows and the print project) we hope to raise more awareness and establish public dialogues that turn into action. Every decision maker that engages in unethical practices at the expense of the earth resources and every citizen of the world that does not care for the world are responsible for climate change and global warming. That most likely includes you and me. Therefore, we need to make changes. We should strive to live in a healthier and lively global ecosystem. Please see the link of resources to learn more, do your part and encourage others to diminish their own global footprint.
